senior thesis project: dérive, 2008
Over the course of thirty days, I unplugged myself from both my routine and gadgets, and honed in on the happenings around me. I watched and listened to others moving through their routines while communicating with the absent. I noted intriguiing pieces of conversations, though possibly only intriguing because of the lack of contextual clarity, as I was only privy to one side of the publicly displayed discourse. These small insights of information inspired this exhibition. The viewer becomes a conscious voyeur, able to see the communication, but unable to put themselves into the setting. This work is a metaphor for how we move amongst one another each day within our self-crafted cocoons.
